Cake freshness question

Minionionionion · 06/02/2014 13:23

I am making a birthday cake for a party on Saturday afternoon/evening, chocolate sponge with buttercream filling and royal icing (with some characters on top in sugar paste)

I normally make the cake the day before but life/work is getting in the way and I'm thinking about making the cake this afternoon, filling and icing it tomorrow and eating Saturday, will that be ok or will it go stale?

Probably be OK. Depends on the recipe I guess.
Sorry, not very helpful (or timely!)

it will be fine, as long as it's iced today it will not dry out.

Minion, I have a cake ordered for Sat, I made filled and crumb coated it yesterday, just iced it a few mins ago ready to decorate tomorrow, the person will pick it up on Sat, it will be fine, honestly.

Thanks for the replies, alas my timing was rubbish and I only had time to make it this afternoon and didn't for fear it would dry out, so tomorrow afternoon it's full on make fill and ice!

At least it's good fun and mil has dd so it will be much quicker than usual :)
