(need to rant) Gutted - Forgot to switch slow cooker on

Just (well 5 hours ago) had a utter blonde moment and no offence meant to any blondes.
Went out and 'treated' us to some free range chicken breasts and some gammon steaks with the intention of doing a chicken and bacon slow cooked caserole. Sounds great doesn't it? I and DH were really looking forward to the prospect of what would be a lovely caserole, and enough for 2 nights dinners.
Would have been great if i'd actually switched the damn thing on. 5 hours later we realise the chicken that was browned off in the frying pan but not fully cooked, had been sitting in 20ºC room temperature and luke warm stock. DAMMIT!
The whole lots gone in the bin as we've both had dodgy tummys this week, so didn't want to chance it. Goodbye £10 worth of meat. And of course its now gone 4pm on a sunday so the only place open is our local Londis so its something cheap and processed for dinner. :-(

Oh poor you Sad.

GemmaPomPom · 02/02/2014 16:45

Can't you heat the whole thing up in big pan? And boil it for a bit?

SauvignonBlanche · 02/02/2014 16:46

Oh no!

FunkyBoldRibena · 02/02/2014 16:46

£10 in meat for 2 dinners? Wow.

I've been veggie for 30 years so don't know the price of meat. I am shocked.

Gemma i physically could have (well if DH hadn't already binned it), but as my dayjob is someone that works out health ratings for restaurants, i know too much science to chance it. Its basically been festering and reheating it could cause bugs that are unpronoucable and as we're trying for a baby i didn't want to chance it :-(

I feel your pain. I once came back to a pot full of half cooked steak as the fuse in the plug had gone during the day. We ended up with fish finger sandwiches for dinner, and I finished cooking the meat through and fed it to the cats.

JamNan · 03/02/2014 09:41

Poor you. I'd have binned it.

notso · 03/02/2014 10:07

Frustrating. I would have cooked it anyway, have done similar

I am impressed you managed to buy free range chicken breasts and gammon steaks for £10. Two free range chicken breasts from my butcher cost £8 Shock they are massive though.
