can you use self raising flour to make a sauce or must it be plain?

I reckon you can get away with it. or corn flour. There was a thread on this once believe it or not!

yeah i've used cornflour this am with some plain but i've run out of plain. Not sure how it would taste though. thanks

I've just used sr flour to make cheese sauce = ok but a bit gloopier.
