Can I hijack a bit and ask if you can use bulgar wheat in exactly the same way as couscous? I have two half packets of each and want tot use them as I like both but am rubbish at ideas!

I just think of what I like to go with pasta as that is equally bland when eaten "solo". Couscous was designed to be cooked above the main stew, acquiring much of the taste of the dish that way. We don't cook it that way these days much, so you have to add what you fancy to it. There isn't much you can't add to couscous to be honest - although it gets a bit messy if you try pesto .
