Quick question about fish pie....

I've been very organised this week to make cooking less stressful so I made twice as much mashed potato yesterday as I need and I have the leftovers in the fridge. Today I have made a double quantity of white sauce (half for a pasta bake and half for a fish pie). I also have a mix of smoked and unsmoked fish chopped up from the fish counter. I have peas and sweetcorn in the freezer.

So, in order to assemble my fish pie can I just put the raw chopped up fish in a dish and mix with frozen peas and sweetcorn and white sauce and cover with the mash from the fridge? If so does anyone know how long it should be in the oven and at what temperature as all the ingredients will be cold?

Thank you...sleep deprivation is making me unable to think for myself at the moment!!!

I would tend to poach the fish in a little milk first and then use the milk in the white sauce and if there is any left over put it in the mash.
You want about 40 mins at 160C ( if you have poached the fish first).

You can do it either way, poach the fish first or cook it from fresh. I more often do it with fresh raw fish now as it seems to keep it's shape better.
Bake it in the over for a good 20 minutes and check the fish is cooked through and all is piping hot before eating. It won't hurt to cook it a bit longer as all the ingredients would be cold to start with.

I would normally poach the fish first but i wanted the white sauce to make both the pasta bake and the fish pie so i didn't want it fishy tasting!

Cooking food with an 8 week old and a 3 year has so far been problematic so I'm trying to be more organised this week!

The fish pie might not be good enough to feed your boss but I hope it should be fine as a filling and nutritious meal for Dd1 and DH.

Do it raw, but as posh says I'd give it a good 40 minutes and make sure everything is piping hot all the way through. I would probably be tempted to defrost the peas and corn in the sieve, just because I wouldn't want any ice watering down the sauce. But I don't suppose that matters either. I really want fish pie now...

Oh yes. Pour boiling water over the peas and sweetcorn in a sieve before adding to the pie so the ice doesn't melt and make the sauce watery ( also makes it cold so takes longer to cook).

Right, I'm doing today so thats a plan. Put raw fish in dish, defrost peas and sweetcorn, mix with white sauce and top with potato.

Cook in oven at about 170 for about 40 mins.

Thanks all
