Never buy the stuff myself, but it works out as the meat for 10 meals, so £3.90 per meal. Hmm, not sure I would go for it; is it an online offer, or one of those people who flog frozen food at the door? I once bought 12 salmon steaks for what seemed like a good price and they were horrid! Definitely see the fresh meat before you buy!

carla · 05/03/2004 13:43

Agree with Tissy, wouldn't go for it. Bought some Dover Sole from a 'fresh' fish vendor at the door. It stank. Besides, I like to closely examine every piece of meat that I buy - what if it's all stringy and connective tissue looking? Not sure it's all that good value, either.

Tissy · 05/03/2004 13:47

BTW, if it is one of those salesmen, they have really hard selling techniques, I tried to put one off, by telling him I had no space in the freezer, and he was all for coming inside to reorganise my freezer, to make space, cheeky b*gger! Just say "no thank you" and close the door firmly!

Was off the Delia site - well al link onto a butchers thingy that delivers - I won't buy it though - agree could be real dodgy and would have no recourse!!!

Sounds like a lot to me for just 5 meals for 2 - £8 per meal. Would have thought you could have 5 fillet steak meals for 2 at that price? I bought some really tender large sirloin steaks for 4 from our butcher (really lovely meat) a few weeks ago for £11.

Don't take my word for it though, don't buy steak very often.

twinkie, if it is Stuart Grant or Donald Russell the quality is excellent. I always buy from them at the Good Food show. It tastes fantastic as it has been hung for longer.

Twinkie · 05/03/2004 14:22

Think it Donald Russell!!

A friend of ours runs an organic butchers which is featured on the Delia site (not the one your offer was from though), and if the quality of this is anythnig like the same, then it probably is a cut above anything you'll find on a trip to your local supermarket. Suspect that you're paying a premium for the (presumably refrigerated) delivery though, as I don't think that sort of selection would come to anything like that in his shop.

GeorginaA · 05/03/2004 15:11

Tissy ... you think YOU had a pushy salesman! Our car got its wheels stuck in a trench on a narrow country lane and the AA refused to come out because it was "off road" (yeah... all 10% of the car off road). A frozen meat salesman came past in his van and helped pull us out but only after we'd bought about £50 worth of stuff off them

GeorginaA · 05/03/2004 15:11

Oh, and the meat wasn't that great either.
