Square birthday cake recipe

My son wants a minecraft birthday cake, so I'm looking for a tried and testes square cake recipe (plain or chocolate) that I can stack to make a cube.

Any suggestions?

I'd just make an ordinary sponge in a square tin.

Weigh eggs. Add same weight of flour, sugar, butter. Add 1 teaspoon of baking power per egg, half teaspoon of vanilla extract. Bake.

An average square tin would probably three eggs worth of cake.
