Anyone made their own sushi?

So I've developed a thing for sushi but any that doesn't contain raw fish!! I've decided to give it a go myself so bought some sticky sushi rice and a bamboo rolling mat. I've watched a few videos on YouTube and it seems fairly simple so hoping to try tonight. Just curious if anyone makes their own and what do you put in it?

I used to a while back, havent recently. It's reasonably straightforward.

Good fillings - cucumber or carrot sticks. Surimi (crab sticks). Chunks of avocado.

sushi does not have raw fish in it anyway.
you could used smoked salmon or tuna or smoked mackerel.
i did make my own once, what you really need is a v v sharp knife for cutting the rolls without squashing them.

I'm also thinking of making sushi as DC love it.
Where do you buy a seaweed sheet from?
I've managed to buy the rest. Thanks.

Yes and I also use smoked salmon. The 'hot smoked' one is particularly nice. Nori sheets available from most big supermarkets these days. As well as v sharp knife btw... dip it in water before slicing the rolls. Goes straight through the sticky rice.

Fab thanks!!!

I got a box of sticky rice and the seaweed sheets from morrisons. Will give it a go tomorrow! Grin

Smoked salmon is a favourite (with cucumber and avocado).

We also like cooked chicken, Japanese style rolled eggs with crab sticks, frankfurters with mayo Blush
