Muscovado Sugar V Demerara Sugar

I am cooking a Mary Berry toffee traybake cake at the weekend as a dessert for a Christening. The recipe calls for muscovado sugar but I have a huge bag of demerara sugar at home. Could I use this instead?

Thanks.

No very different things, muscovado sugar is dark, strong smelling, treacle like, sticks together. The kind you use for gingerbread etc.

Demerara is like what you use for coffee, tiny little crystal cubes sort of thing, not a strong taste.

You could use it but your cake will be lighter in colour and not have quite the same 'treacly' quality.
