I need recommendations for healthy recipes!

Me and DH have fallen into a bad habit of eating lot of junk, I started eating whatever I fancied when pregnant and have been snacking too much since DS was born. DH just tends to eat unhealthily most of the time. I'm not overweight but don't want to put on any more, DH is overweight so could do with losing a little.

What healthy, low fat recipes would you recommend? I like the look of the hairy dieters ones. Any ways of making meals healthier and lower in fat also appreciated.

The easiest ways to make meals healthier is to increase the amount of vegetables they include. Have vegetables take up half the plate, for example, before adding anything else. Reducing fat can be achieved by reducing the amount of meat in a dish, using oil sparingly and either switching to lower-fat dairy products or swapping dairy-based sauces for tomato-based.

A healthier Bolognese sauce therefore.

  • Very low-fat minced beef that you pre-cook and drain to remove the grease
  • Halve the amount of meat you'd normally use
  • Double the volume of tomato you'd normally use.
  • Bulk out the sauce with extra onions, grated carrot, chopped red peppers or similar

Becomes 'a healthy tomato & vegetable sauce flavoured with a little meat' rather than 'a meat sauce flavoured with a little tomato'

I already bulk stuff out with veggies to save money and we have vegetarian meals a few times a week, either meat free recipes or substituting meat with quorn.

I also plan to bake more so we have home made cakes and biscuits rather than shop bought snacks and will try making healthier things.

I'm cutting out crisps etc and will be trying to have more fruit, yoghurt etc instead.
