frozen plums and crumble

I picked and froze some plums in Sept - in great haste, so just stoned them and got the bugs out - planning to make crumble for tomorrow lunch. Am I best to defrost gently over night - I guess by leaving out in kitchen? or do it in the microwave before I stew them tomorrow AM? or other options? Thank you! and along the way, any tips for plum crumble gladly received.
