Vegan marzipan?

nbee84 · 10/01/2014 22:01

I have a vegan coming for lunch on Sunday and the dessert I would like to make has marzipan in. What marzipan is suitable? - Asda only tend to label their products as suitable for vegetarians. What ingredients would I need to look out for in the ingredients list that would make it unsuitable for vegans?

Vegans don't eat any products that come from an animal so obviously meat but also dairy and eggs. Marzipan does usually contain eggs so I think it is unlikely you will find a vegan suitable one.

marzipan is usually vegan, i can't think of anything that it might have in it off the top of my head that wouldn't be obvious (like egg or anything)

I cross posted there and completely contradicted, sorry!

However I've just looked on Asda groceries and their own brand an Dr Oetker look fine to me.

Thanks all - and Katy, I'm hoping to cut that corner and buy a ready made one Grin one less thing to do!

Did you find some?

I adore Marzipan btw - but I can't eat it because I am allergic to almonds

Yes I did Katy, thanks Smile

Thank goodness for the internet - makes it so much easier to check if something is suitable, and for finding recipes.
