What do you serve them with?

We are having fishcakes for dinner for the first time next week and I'm wondering what to put with them as they are already sort of potato....
TIA

Salad

In winter we have them with two or three steamed vegetables.
In summer with a salad.

Sweet corn and fine green beans. mmmmm

and a bit of thai sweet chilli sauce on the side.

GoodnessIsThatTheTime · 10/01/2014 12:20

We nearly always do a few new potatoes and veg (carrots, broccoli etc)

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 10/01/2014 12:20

PS - cook your green beans with the lid on, and with very little water, a veg stock cube and garlic salt.

A "cold salad" mix of raw veg: grated carrots and grated apples, sprinkle lemon juice over. It tastes fab, and is a great way of getting the kids to eat fresh carrots! The apples really sweeten the taste. But make it just before serving to avoid browning.

Beans. Jamie Oliver has beans on his fish pie so there

QuintessentialShadows · 10/01/2014 12:22

In cold weather cheese or parsley sauce and peas.

In warm weather salad, cottage cheese and peas.

Having them tonight with cheese sauce and peas, delicious.

enormouse · 10/01/2014 12:42

In warm weather - salad or mixed roast veg, roasted tomatoes
In colder weather - buttered green beans, sweet corn and parsley sauce
or baked beans

Gemizzel · 10/01/2014 12:47

salad and potato wedges

sweetheart · 10/01/2014 12:47

ohhh thanks, lots of ideas - I think I'll go with corn and sweet potato chips to try something a bit different.

Batchelor's golden savoury rice Blush and veg.

The rice goes really well with fish!
