Fish pie with creme fraiche?

Is this possible? Would it be nice? Anyone else tried it?

I fancy making fish pie but I can't be bothered with the faff of white sauce and the extra pan to wash up. I also find white sauce fish pies quite heavy. Would creme fraiche make a good alternative?

I use the Jamie Oliver one, creme fraiche, lemon juice, spinach and an egg. It's lovely and very quick, especially now I use the Mumsnet approved frozen mash!

Yep, it's what I always use! Just season it well and add some chopped parsley, tarragon or chives.
I also don't do mash on the top, just use scrunched up, buttered filo pastry. Far less faff and much nicer IMO

Jamie Oliver fish pie in ministry of food has grated carrot, celery & cheese in the bottom with the fish & I add a spoonful of creme fraiche & then mash on top.

Yes, I add creme fraiche, I've also made fish pie by squirting a tube of cheese spread over my fish.

Oh, lots of ideas! Thank you all. Glad it's not a bonkers idea. That's tomorrow nights dinner sorted.

I'll have a look at the JO recipe. Ministry of food has been on my amazon wish list for ages. I'm always googling recipes from it. We love the meatballs from it. I should just buy myself a copy!

I use a packet of Philly or similar soft cheese with herbs, soften and mix in with fish, voila - job done!
