The Big Cheese Making Kit

JonSnowKnowsNothing · 08/01/2014 15:12

Anyone used this before? I got it for Christmas and eager to give it a go. From what I can see though, each use of it needs 8 pints of milk, so I'm loathe to cock it up.....
Obviously I'll scrutinise the instructions before starting but anyone got any tips?
Not sure what I'll do with 2lb of Mozzarella

Cheese freezes really well; if you intend to use the mozzarella for cooking, slice or grate/chop it first and you can use it from frozen. Get some latex gloves on to protect your hands from the heat while you form the cheese curds into balls and save the whey to use in breadmaking, it really makes a difference

Oh thanks! And quite interested to see the effect the whey has on my bread, too. Thanks for the tips.

A cheese making kit? I never knew this actually existed. Do you have a link at all for where you bought it?

LineRunner · 08/01/2014 19:50

Can you use goat's milk?

AnnabelleLee · 08/01/2014 19:55

I bought one for my brother last year...he loved it! no tips though, sorry, but he said it was a lot of fun and very tasty.
If you google big cheese making company you will find it.

I bought the goats cheese one for dsis and mozarella one for dm. The woman in the shop said you can halve the quantities if 2lb is too much I think?

GinSoakedMisery · 08/01/2014 19:59

Thanks, I think I will have to buy the goats cheese one, love goats cheese.
