Got a fridge full of nonsense, or indeed, rather lacking in anything?

This thread is to help those stumped for ideas with what they have lurking in their fridge/freezer/cupboard and need to knock something up.

I am here quite a lot, and as a professional (resting) cook I would relish the challenge to help people out!

So, I line the tin with layer of pastry first, add filling then just strips across top?

I will check if I have custard.

Thank you!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/01/2014 16:48

Icecream would be good too. Cranberry sauce is evil, so I'd chuck that!

MadameDefarge · 04/01/2014 16:49

noo remus cranberry sauce is the food of the gods!

Ooh chefs - random questions alert. ..

When I clean my fridge is ok to use kitchen spray and wipe it isn't it? Then put food back in? I usually wait ages as I worry about it being a box full of chemicals, with the door open.
Can't believe I'be got to my age and don't know how safely clean a fridge. ...

Had two more questions and have forgotten then!

MadameDefarge · 04/01/2014 18:06

no. not kitchen spray. nope.

Clean with diluted washing up liquid only.

You will all be relieved to hear (ahem) that I have solved the Cream Crisis by buying an impulsive net of mussels this lunchtime. Yum.

Stilton pies lined up for tomorrow.

Then we're in the clear, I think, except for the chocolate - insane amounts of milk chocolate - which I am wondering if it would be ethical to throw in the food bank. (unopened and new obv) I mean, I am chucking it because I know it will be make me fat, sluggish and depressed - is it fair to do that to others?

MadameDefarge · 04/01/2014 18:32

yes. absolutely. it wont all go to one person, just a slab or whatever per person.

MadameDefarge · 04/01/2014 18:33

mussels sounds fabulous. jealous!

Do you work? If so, you could make a big batch of Rocky Road to use up all the chocolate, and take into work. I guarantee it won't last long!

givemeaclue · 04/01/2014 22:29

Come on ladies what do I do with my weetabix

MadameDefarge · 04/01/2014 22:50

throw it out. It will just glower at you for months and become a home to weevils.

Sorry.

OP posts:
PigletJohn · 04/01/2014 22:50

you can use it like toast or crispbread.

apply butter and jam or marmalade.

MadameDefarge · 04/01/2014 22:53

Piglet, no. oh dear god no.

Selks · 05/01/2014 00:15

Weetabix mixed with water makes good glue.

MadameDefarge · 05/01/2014 00:16

might be good for rabbits?

OP posts:
NatashaGurdin · 05/01/2014 00:33

I think you can give a biscuit or two of weetabix to dogs (depending on their size obviously) with their food, my vet suggested this when my old dog was having problems as it acts a bulking agent and helps to fill them up and also helps with digestive problems. I think my young dog eats it as well but then he eats anything! Smile

givemeaclue · 05/01/2014 11:13

Thank you for permission to chuck it out, or find hungry dog!
