Pickled Walnut?

Is it too early to pick Walnuts for pickling

There are lots on the tree

DH wants pickled walnuts (I cannot think of anything worse...but greater love hath no woman.....that to cook something she doesn't like)

can't you give him a B* instead and send him to waitrose to buy them ready pickled?

yes - but then what will I do with the 36lbs of walnut when they are ripe

Too early, I think - walnuts are an autumn crop so late September, early October.

But pickeld ones are green walnuts (aren't they?)

What is the going rate for raw walnuts? - Do I have to that the green off?

Do I have to shell them?

Sorry, I was barking up the wrong tree - it looks as if you're right ... this reckons end of June, before the nut forms.

Pickled walnuts are one of those things that are both awful and wonderful at the same time. They taste like battery acid, but I always have to have one.

Yuk!!

They look like little pickled brains. I've never been able to bring myself to eat one - though my parents love them.
