PIL show up unexpectedly. Tut tut tutting and giving knowing winks when he insisted on getting down from the table to see them (thinking he couldnt wait to escape the dreadful food I was feeding him into their loving arms when really he was just excited to see them and had a fair bit already.) In my defence it is shopping day and DH wasnt home from work with the shopping so had very little to offer. What do you serve when there is little on offer or do you all have a wonderful fall back in the freezer meal for such occaisons?

what did you give him?

My fall-back is scrambled egg as we always have eggs left.

BudaBabe · 21/07/2006 09:10

We've all done it!!!

I usually have a few portions of bolognaise sauce in child size pots in freezer for those occasions!

yawningmonster · 21/07/2006 09:10

Well eggs were involved but the rest is just too shameful! Does popcorn count towards 5 + a day?

Don't worry as Buda says - we have all done it. Shame you got caught!

My ds won't ever eat decent food at all. Once in a while rubbish food won;t hurt him - bet he enjoys the novelty.

Charlottesweb · 21/07/2006 12:52

Mine just had reheated BBQ sausages left from last nights BBQ

SoupDragon · 21/07/2006 12:53

Er... reheated sausages??

GeorginaA · 21/07/2006 12:55

Bah I can beat you all ... ds1 had a school disco last night so ds2 and me ended up at the pub, and while I had a lager shandy, he had a packet of crisps and ... a .... a .... whispers shamefully fruit shoot

(we did go home afterwards and have vegetable lasagne but he only ate two mouthfuls because he was too full from the crisps & drink ... oh well)

littlerach · 21/07/2006 13:02

Today is the secong day this week that DD2 hasn't had any lunch as she has had too much in the morning.

Yesterday she had a huge cookie at a friends, then today it was the toddlers party and she had a whole bag of wotsits so couldn't manage anything else.

In my defence, she does eat v well usually.

Cappucino · 21/07/2006 13:03

dd2 doesn't do lunch

every day she gives me her sandwich straight back politely

today is Coffee Out day so she has a packet of wafers from Cafe Nero

this is her regular Friday lunch

schneebly · 21/07/2006 13:07

My 2 are just tucking into white bread with dairylea and wet ham! In my defence they usually have wholemeal and DH bought the wrong ham!

PrettyCandles · 21/07/2006 13:12

My fall backs are eggs (which ds won't eat, so not so good), sandwiches (cheese and tomato/cucumber are 'good', peanut butter is desperate), baked beans on toast (whciha gain ds won't eat), pasta and pesto (salty! ), or, when all else fails, fish fingers and chips.

MrsBigD · 21/07/2006 13:13

oh boy I really need to go hang my had in shame! With dd I'm just glad if and when she eats!My kids drink fruit shoots (at McDonalds), Capri Sun and eat freezer food! But also lots of fresh fruit and salad stuff . Favourite atm is pita stuffed with ham and halloumi fresh off the toasted sandwich maker

So yawningmonster don't worry!

pucca · 21/07/2006 13:15

I wouldn't worry...my dd is eating a chocolate spread sandwich as we speak

crazydazy · 21/07/2006 13:29

Like MrsBigD I am just happy that DS eats something!!! He is very fussy, he won't have breakfast until about 10.00 and then only toast, no cereal. His fave food is fish fingers and chips and have to make him this twice a week so at least he has two meals inside him!!! He turns his nose up at almost everything atm!!!
