Watching Mary Berry last night, I was inspired to make this for Xmas. I'd never even heard of it before. Has anyone tried it?

My mum used to buy one when I was little, I loved it but can not remember the brand. It had a thick layer of chocolate over sponge cake, and pretty decorations, marzipan fruits. I haven't tasted one for about 30 years as I am now ancient, but it was a highlight of Christmas for me as a kid. Is my description anything like the one Mary Berry made?

Have to say I thought it sounded odd - a lemon flavoured sponge cake with a huge thick layer of chocolate ganache on top. She kept saying it was a lighter alternative to festive fruit cake but i'm not convinced.

I was inspired on Monday night by Mary and I plan to make one . I'm also going to make the mincepie tray bake with strusal topping .
Hoping recipes are BBC website.

Recipe for tunis cake is here. I think she said the cake part was a Madeira-type recipe. I'm not convinced that a cake with a great thick chocolate ganache layer on top is lighter than a fruit cake! I did love watching them make the gingerbread house. I doubt I could make something as professional-looking as that. Maybe a gingerbread hovel...
