How often can children eat fish?

My ds is 19 months and likes fish. I seem to remember reading somewhere about limiting fish intake. I cant remember all the details (how often they can have fish, what type and so on). Does anybody know?

Also is he too young to have tinned tuna? Is this unhealthy because of mercury or something?

Because I dont like fish never took much of interest before - but having to now!!

DD has tinned tuna when she likes it (!) and I tend to rinse it in a colander first. Think I read to do this somewhere.
Not sure about other fish, DD has cod once a week or so, hadn't really thought about frequencies!!
Fish pie goes down well, also tuna pasta. Sure there were loads of recipes in Annabel Karmel's book.
HTH.

thanks for your help. Thought it was best to make sure. I half listen to the news - so often I get half stories and cant remember things!

Have just read your message and you've scared me about tuna! My ds loves it and has been eating it for several months a couple of times a week - he's now 19 mths. Can someone reassure me that tinned tuna is ok?

My 19 mo dd has it at least twice a week. Is it just tinned tuna that is bad or all tuna?

I was planning on introducing DS2, who is nearly 6m, to tinned tuna - is this now a bad thing?
Roll on the days where they are fed on a pill a day

fish is fine and very healthy but you just need to limit tinned tuna to 2/3 times per week because of mercury levels. otherwise is good for them - as with everything - good in moderation!

ds loves tuna and salmon and I think that yes, there is guidance about avoiding it, but it also has many benefits...

i give it maybe once a week and buy tuna in spring water......not sure why - seems more ehalthy somehow lol
