I need a foolproof cup cake recipe and decoration ideas please.

I got given the job of making cakes for the play group party tomorrow, but I'm crap at baking! I tried to ice something once and it looked awful.

Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do to make them look and taste nice?

I would make fairy cakes. recipe is very simple:
Take your eggs and weigh them in their shells.
Make a note of the weight and then weigh out butter and sugar of same weight. Beat together until light and fluffy. Beat eggs in one at a time. Add same weight of sifted self raising flour. Add some vanilla essence and some milk if the mix is a bit thick.
Spoon into fairy cake cases in a bun tray. Bake for 15 - 20 mins. Cool on wire rack.

Make butter icing with butter, icing sugar and milk or water add vanilla essence.

Top cakes with icing and sprinkle with decorations.
