Anyone made a Sachertorte?

Want to make one fo DSs birthday. Have read a few recipes and the y differ, obviously as it s supposed to be a secret recipe. It s really the icing I am wondering about. Some say chocolate, icing sugar and water, other eg Delia s say cream, chocolate and glycerine. Anyone know a good recipe? Thanks.

I've made sachertorte, with two different recipes. This cream and glycerine one is new to me.

I know that it is very near to blasphemy but ... I don't like Delia recipes. I have a theory that a lot of them were made up to cope with the ingredients and taste deprivations of the 70s and early 80s: when people needed to be led gently towards various exotic things, by way of the familiar, and when you had to make do with supermarkets that didn't sell esoterica such as re-bonnet peppers (or whatever).

So I might go with the recipe that isn't Delia's.

Thanks cat. Can you remember what ingredients there were in the icing. I think you have a point about Delia. Many recipes and cookery writers have come on in terms of authenticity and downright excitingness. But I guess she has her good points and provided access to cooking for a lot of people.

I did Mary Berry's one. It was yummy (not sure how authentic!)
It just had a ganache of choc and cream.

I've done the Mary Berry one too - it was fairly easy and tasted great!

I went to cooking school after Uni for Baking and Pastry and we always used a ganache of chocolate and cream.
