Quin-o-a or Keenwah?

Which do you say? I say quin-o-a because that's how I first read it, and I feel slightly pretentious saying keenwah, but I think I'm probably wrong

It's keenwah but it doesn't make sense to me either.

tribpot · 15/07/2006 13:47

This says either is correct, I say quin-o-a, keenwah sounds too poncey.

Spagblog · 15/07/2006 14:03

keenwah - the box tells you how to pronounce it.

NotQuiteCockney · 15/07/2006 14:25

keenwah

If it helps, "qui" is pronounced "key" in a lot of languages (spanish and french, anyway) and this pronounciation is probably related to that?

babygiraffe · 15/07/2006 14:33

hi this is nothing to do with anything you're talking about but was just reading some chats and wondered if someone could tell me what dd ds etc means?

TooTicky · 15/07/2006 14:52

Keenwah still sounds pretentious to me.
Ds = dear/darling son, dd = dear/darling daughter

Yes it is definitely

keen-wah

it does say so on the box

I know what you mean, you feel a bit of a twat saying it at first. It's an acquired taste

someothermother · 15/07/2006 15:35

psst it's franny undercover (must change out of my disguise before posting yet again)

spidermama · 15/07/2006 15:41

I say keen-wah. At first I felt a bit of a pretentious arse because I'd also read it as kwin-noah and had been pronouncing it that way for a while. But I forced myself and now it trips off the tongue naturally. (Either that or I have become a pretentious arse. You decide. )

NotQuiteCockney · 15/07/2006 16:13

Can't you go back to being QueenQuinoa?

monkeytrousers · 15/07/2006 16:23

Quinoa salad? Recipe please?

FrannyandZooey · 15/07/2006 16:24

NQC, I never was QueenQuinoa, except in your twisted little imagination

Mind you I like to imagine you as Sophie Dahl, so who am I to talk

NotQuiteCockney · 15/07/2006 16:26

Yes, well, quite.

This is the webpage of the minor celebrity I really am.
