Turkey haters this way......what's for Christmas dinner?

We're thinking of a nice rare beef fillet...I'm going for a less is more approach this year avoiding over crowding the plate and the palate. Some sprouts, dauphinoise - roasties for dd and a red wine jus. And then on Boxing Day either a ham with creamed leeks or roasted pork with apples and cider gravy.
Anyone else stepping away from turkey and doing something different/interesting.

Nut Roast
Roast potatoes
Carrots in maple syrup with pecan nuts
Peas & leeks
Yorkshire puds (because DH loves them!)
Homemade gravy.

Sorry, should be DS loves them!

Change it every year. Chicken, leg of lamb, beef rib. Always have a ham as well, though, by popular request. We all tend to discuss the Christmas meal and decide together what starters, meat an pud we're having.

Roast pork this year, with all the usual Christmas vegetables and stuffing, looking forward to the pork sandwiches too!
Might have steak tagliata on Boxing Day, as it's nice and easy.

Goose.

ShoeSmacking · 18/12/2013 21:57

I'm doing rib of beef. Waitrose man told me they are getting loads in ahead of Christmas so should have no problem buying.

I am LOVING the idea of potato dauphinois though. Was going to do regular roasties but am super excited now. Going to test recipes this week! Thanks mn.

Venison. Would love to do goose but have been traumatised by cooking a very smokey duck in a holiday let ...

SquidgyMummy · 22/12/2013 17:06

Lamb, as it is so expensive normally, so a treat.

still doing a turkey roll though

Laska42 · 22/12/2013 18:08

Partridge.. with rice pilaff and winter salad of spinach watercress, oranges and pomegranate. Probably apple strudel for afters .

Saving the pud for when parents come on Boxing day ,
will be doing HFWs mincemeat stuff pork tenderloin on boxing day , with roasties and probably a winter coleslaw ..
