Which food processor or mixer can make bread dough?

I just thought instead of a bread machine could I get a mixer like kmix, prospero or similar and will it mix and knead dough well enough, which is most useful please? I only have a hand mixer and I make cake every week

I would like to know this too.

My Magimix is brilliant for bread.

I no longer use my breadmaker at all.

You bung in the ingredients. Mix it a bit. Let though dough rise...bake it, hey presto. Brilliant bread.

I have come to the conclusion it is easier to just do it by hand!

Arthritis makes it hard for me to do it by hand sometimes.

My next problem is how do I hint to dh which is exactly the right one to buy.

Or perhaps I should just buy one in the sales but then dh gets upset that he didnt get the right thing ( rather like the year I got a frying pan)

Oh dear. Just looked at the prices. Ain't going to happen.

I must be doing something wrong, as have a Kitchenaid and Magimix. The Kitchenaid ju st ends up with a big ball of dough travelling up the dough hook and is a pain in the arse to get off. Magimix was ok, but it is a lot of money to pay just for making bread (the only other thing I have used it for is grating cheese)!

My Prospero does, but only up to 500g of flour, which is enough pizza dough for 4 or a medium sized loaf. It was a lot cheaper than a Chef though (I got a really good deal on Amazon who were in some kind of price war with Sainsburys over them ). My K Mix hand mixer also has a dough hook, even cheaper but more work

I know the price always put me off too!
Everyone seems to rate kitchen aid over kmix but I'm not sure if it's worth the extra cost.

I agree the prospero is a great price but it doesn't look as solid as the kmix and reviews seem a bit mixed. I prefer the look of the kmix too

I find it good, Plus they are used on gbbo, so must be up to the job.

It does everything I need, except for chopping/grinding small quantities - I actually complained because at the time (2 years ago) on amazon it said it did, they gave me 15% back so I was happy .

I mostly use it for mixing and the food processor attachment, and occasionally for kneading dough and blending and it does all of that well. My only complaint would be that sometimes it leaves an unmixed layer at the very bottom. I get around this by stopping half way through and stirring by hand then restarting. I think it's good for the money. Maybe not as pretty as a KitchenAid though!

I make a huge amount of bread and pizza dough and use my Kitchenaid with dough hook. Add ingredients and let it do its thing. And it looks so pretty

Is the kitchen aid artisan 4.8l big enough, it's slightly cheaper?

kenwood chef. Every time. Not as pretty as Kitchenaid, but more sturdy. Mine makes bread dough no problems. :)

I choose a Kitchen Aid as it permanently sits on my kitchen worktop, looks pretty and does the job well. If I wasn't bothered about it looking pretty I'd have gone for the Kenwood.

Kmix is wonderful, I make dough in mine. and lots of cake

I've got a Kitchenaid, my sister has a Kmix. Both great for kneading dough as well as cakey things. I think the main differences are looks, not functionality.

Sainsburys do their own kitchen machine that looks similar to the Kmix. Not sure if it has a dough hook, but it's on offer at the moment for £129 instead of £199.

Hairytoes it sounds like your dough isn't wet enough, try using slightly more water.

Love my kitchen aid! Whips up all all sorts - fab with bread - really sold, looks good and I have grater/slicer attachment which is quick and easy to use.
And so easy to wash up.
Most used bit of kit in the kitchen - and years old!

Have you thought about buying a very cheap unbranded breadmaker or snag a used one off someone who is chucking theirs out to use as a mixer, kneader rising machine - but do the final bake in your oven?

I have a Kenwood breadmaker but only use it to mix and do the initial rise. Then I press the button again on any random programme to knock it back and knead again for 5 mins.

I then turn the dough out and hand shape and plop on a tray before the final rise and baking in my electric oven. I can do 2 loaves that way as the breadmaker will hold 2 pounds of flour although it would not bake a loaf that big.

The machine just takes all the slog our of kneading and raising and knocking back and its on a timer so it beeps when it is ready. It is much more consistent than my hand kneading is.
