We know how much you lot love your food: over the years you have posted nigh-on 3000 recipes to the site, covering everything from baby food to lemon drizzle cake, and all the roast dinners, picnic foods and puddings in between. In honour of your input, we've been thinking for some time now that our food section was ripe for a bit of a do-over - so we've spent the last few months doing just that: garnishing each recipe with a mouth-watering photo, beefing up the search engine, and whipping together some of our very favourite recipes into handy collections for you to drool over browse.

The idea was to make it easier for you to find the recipes you're after, and simpler to add your own. There's also a lot of useful info in there (from what to do when your child announces they've become a vegetarian to ideas for using up leftovers, packed lunch dos and don'ts and how to cater a children's party) which wasn't too easy to track down in days gone by; it's now gathered in one place, ready for when you need it.

And we're not stopping there: still to come is a new mealplanner tool and a dish-of-the-day recommendation. The recipe folders will be back better than ever, and there's even a Mumsnet cookbook in the pipeline (thanks again to all of you who helped with recipe testing!). Rather than waiting for everything to be ready, though, we wanted to give you a look at what's there now, and ask for your thoughts. Do you like the new look? Is the search working for you? And is there anything crucial that's missing?

Of course, all the shiny new features are as nothing without your recipes; your works-every-time cake, your pleases-any-fussy-child dish or your looks-like-I've-made-a-huge-effort-when-it-only-took-minutes dinner party staple. So we're marking the relaunch with a new competition: share your recipes with other Mumsnetters over the next month by adding them here and you'll be entered into a competition to win a year's weekly delivery of fruit and veg boxes from Riverford. Good luck, and do let us know what you think of the revamp!

HepsibarCrinkletoes - I'll PM you.

CatherineHMumsnet · 27/11/2013 17:01

Hi Shallishanti - we're not seeing the same thing. Can you tell us what you're searching for and how and we'll look into it.

CatherineHMumsnet · 27/11/2013 22:11

nextphase - we have proofed almost 3000 recipes over the past few months but obviously some things slip through (reckon that was supposed to related to the tin it's baked in). But thanks for pointing it out. Have changed it now and we'll alert Tech to the missing Mmelindor recipes.

Please don't press the 'do not migrate' button or the recipe will disappear. (one more for Tech)

On veggie recipe issues - do please report any recipes that pop up in a search and we'll make sure that doesn't happen again.

LowLevelWhiting - will sort out that cheese biscuit recipe (wouldn't it be nice if it was low-carb?)

VivaLaBeaver - what a pain for you. Do you want to PM me the recipe and I'll put it in for you? But we'll also try and work out why it happened too.

CatherineHMumsnet · 27/11/2013 22:13

Me2Me2 - yes a working new-look recipe folder is something we're building right now. Will be up in phase 2 which hopefully isn't that far away.

Auntierosemary - does seem as if search is a bit buggy. We'll try that same search and see if some recipes were classified as egg-free when they should in fact have been classed as an egg recipe.

CatherineHMumsnet · 28/11/2013 09:30

AryaofhouseQuark - no we'll pick a recipe uploaded over the course of the competition duration at random, so all recipes will be automatically included in the competition.

SarahMumsnet · 28/11/2013 09:54

Hey everyone,

thanks loads for the feedback, and apols for teething troubles

CatherineHMumsnet · 28/11/2013 11:47

Hi - search should now be fixed although it does appear that there's a glitch when looking for recipes marked egg-free. We're working on that now - but carb-free should be OK now.
Do keep telling us if you spot mistakes.

JulieMumsnet · 02/12/2013 18:57

@Suddengeekgirl

They've forgotten us! :(

WHAT? Shock Never!

We're just busy creating magic at the moment, we'll NEVER forget you though.

Cake

JulieMumsnet · 02/12/2013 20:29

Tomatoeses is a very difficult word to spell, as is the other one Blush

Thank you for letting us know, we'll get it sorted.

CatherineHMumsnet · 03/12/2013 09:16

Haven't forgotten you. Sorry - been a busy few days. Right - I'll jump in and start trying to find answers to your questions/solutions to your problems.

CatherineHMumsnet · 03/12/2013 09:20

I know a few of you don't like adding the ingredients line by line, but there is a reason we need you to do this. The second stage of our food redesign should allow you to add the ingredients for a recipe into a printable shopping list (and perhaps directly into an online shopping basket) with the press of a button. So while it is a pain, you'll be helping out thousands of people who view the recipe after you - and benefit yourself from the shopping list function when we get it up and working.

CatherineHMumsnet · 03/12/2013 09:30

Rockinhippy - we do have a budget recipe tag already - but I also like the idea of the leftovers tag. We'll add one of those in.

CatherineHMumsnet · 03/12/2013 09:50

Missorinoco - we've fixed the link through to Slow Cooker recipes from the #101 page. Thanks for pointing that out.
Are you still getting the recipes hidden under the pictures? If so - can I ask what browser you're using?

CatherineHMumsnet · 03/12/2013 10:13

LackaDaisyCal

We did have collections for gluten free, dairy free etc but helpfully hadn't put them on our collections page - Tech are just fixing a bug and they should be up later today.

Are you still seeing the text hiding behind the star rating box to the right of the photographs in firefox? I've had a look this morning and it seems OK....

CatherineHMumsnet · 03/12/2013 10:46

MrsMangoBiscuit - that issue seems to be sorted now but tell us if you're still having the same problem.

CatherineHMumsnet · 03/12/2013 11:25

AryaofhouseSnark - sorry about your recipe, we've changed that now

CatherineHMumsnet · 03/12/2013 11:29

3rdnparty - slow cooker recipes are here. We're just waiting for a Tech glitch to be fixed to allow us to add them on to the collections page.

CatherineHMumsnet · 03/12/2013 11:32

Margene - can you tell us where that link to Best Basics recipes was and we'll fix it?

We're adding images to all the recipes as fast as we can after they've been uploaded. We need to make sure they're as close to the recipe as possible which takes a little time.

CatherineHMumsnet · 03/12/2013 13:32

CatherineHMumsnet · 03/12/2013 16:10

Suddengeekgirl - if it's your version of a recipe you've found elsewhere - as in you've done something to it to make it your own I think that'd be fine.

CatherineHMumsnet · 03/12/2013 16:56

I think it'd need even the smallest tweak from you - although you could say which recipe inspired it....

CatherineHMumsnet · 04/12/2013 10:45

Hi Margene - sorry you think so. The food section isn't a new thing on Mumsnet though - it's been around pretty much since we started. Mumsnetters have been contributing recipes for years - that's why we have so many! So we wouldn't do recipe development ourselves - the whole point is that these are your recipes not ours.

CatherineHMumsnet · 04/12/2013 11:30

Borntofolk - no you can't edit once it's in. Which recipe was it and we'll change it for you.

CatherineHMumsnet · 05/12/2013 11:09

gretagrape - you can't at the moment, but we can do it for you.

CatherineHMumsnet · 18/12/2013 12:05

There's just one week left to add a recipe and enter the competition. And we're still eager to hear your thoughts on what we've done (so far) with Food.
