First attempt at slow cooker gammon

I have a 700g gammon joint, onions, a can of diet coke or a bottle of Stella cidre, some carrots, broad beans, frozen peas and leeks - can anyone advise what combination sounds best so I hopefully don't have to bother going out to the shops today?
Cooking for a friend so don't want to risk an unfortunate experiment!
Also never cooked with gammon - do I need to do some pre boiling business I keep reading about ?
TIA if you can help a novice

Leave all the vegetables out because the stock off gammon is inedibly salty IMHO. Use the cider and water, maybe a cinnamon stick if you've got it.

Thanks cogito makes sense - would that mean I don't have to pre boil it then?
I have some cinnamon - good idea!

Today's gammon joints don't need soaking normally. Just discard any liquor that comes off after it has cooked.
