Halving a Christmas cake recipe

Help all cake makers :) I want to bake a smaller cake than the recipe makes, is it enough to half everything or do the spices stay the same? How much time is reduced for baking?

The timing and quantities for your cake is going to depend entirely on the size and depth of the tin you bake it in. Luckily Delia has done all the hard work for you... here

Thanks for that, very useful as always is our Delia but she quotes for 6 inch or 8 inch and of course my tin is a 7 inch! So a bit of jiggery pokery required as I also don't want it too deep!

It's actually worth buying a different tin...
