It's the top layer of our wedding cake (from may 04) and as tradition we've kept it for our 1st babies christening. Well now that time has come (30th July) will it be ok? It's a fruit cake with icing.

the cake will be fine.
What you could do is take it to a bakers and get them to take the icing and marzipan off and do it again (or do it yourselves if you can do that sort of thing)
We did it with ours but the christening was less than a year after the wedding.....
I got a local cake maker to make a plaque thing with DS1's details on it and we put that on top.

i guess if its a tradition, then people will have done it for years...

therefore people have survived for years... and all have been ok.

Im sure it will be fine...

2 years isnt THAT long to go from wedding to christening IMO!
