Anyone have a simple (preferably foolproof) recipe for bonfire toffee please?

Ok, here's 2 - both make a 7" x 7" tin

240g sugar
120g butter
1 tbsp vinegar

Boil until a little dropped into water forms a hard ball. Add vinegar. Pour into tin to set.

From memory, this one's quite a 'brittle' sort of toffee

1 tin of condensed milk
90g butter
3 tbsp (big serving spoon style spoons) of golden syrup
150g sugar

Put all except the condensed milk into a pan and heat gently until the sugar has dissolved. Add the condensed milk and bring to the boil. Boil stirring until a little dropped into cold water forms a hard boil. Pour into tray to set. (I've always found that by the time it's ready it's a colour slightly darker than milk chocolate.)

This one is a chewy toffee.
