Sodastream - worth it or not?

I am trying to cut down on alcohol consumption and the main thing that works for me is making interesting mixes with fruit juice and fizzy water. However, am getting fed up with the amount of plastic bottles I am getting through. Am thinking of buying a soda stream but they are quite pricey!

Would really appreciate it if anyone would share their thoughts/experience with them. Are they worth the £60 + they cost? Would it be worth buying second hand? Can you get hold of the gas canisters easily enough? Any models to consider/avoid?

I love mine! About 50 quid off of amazon and has paid for itself. One canister lasts around three months of almost daily use and you can get refills from dunelm mill and get a discount if you bring your old one back.

I use mine most days (I bought the basic/cheap model when it was on special offer in Argos). I only like a few of the actual Soda Stream concentrates (the cola is pretty good), but like the fizzy water with various fruit squashes. I get the gas canisters and extra bottles from ASDA.

Love mine! Use it daily for soda water, gas refills are easily found and operate on an exchange with empty canister - even Argos do it!

Love mine, we use it to make sparkling water...refills from Robert Dyas, john Lewis and Argos. We've had it for 3 years nowadays used it on an almost daily basis.

Updating an old thread...

Our Sodastream (an expensive model with glass bottles) broke a couple months after the 24-month warranty expired. When I examined it, it seems that the internal parts are made of very soft plastic (someone else has had an identical problem here). We contacted customer service, no replacement was offered and having it repaired is proving really difficult, perhaps impossible.

I loved the convenience of having carbonated water at home and we only needed a replacement canister every three months, but if you have to buy a new machine every two years, it's neither cost-effective nor environmentally sound.

Don't buy!
