You could;
Make 45 cakes so you have plenty to choose from for 30 perfect cakes, Buy lots of expensive toppings -silver balls, chocolate stars, sprinkles etc etc etc
Spend lots of time on each cake ensuring that it is perfect in every way

or

Do as most other busy parents do and go to your nearest big store and buy some basic fairycakes. Slosh some spray on topping on and throw some random sprinkles at the whole lot. By the time the cakes get transported from the classroom to playground they will look like they were made by monkeys anyway.

Make time to speak to some of the parents and don't play yourself down. They probably don't speak to anyone they don't know ,no matter what their age.People have busy lives and don't always notice others waiting to make contact with them . Sometimes you just have to put yourself out there.

I've got a great recipe, but I'm not at home until tomorrow. It works every time for me. I'll check this thread tomorrow and see whether anyone else has helped you first.

For 50 x BUNS, not cupcakes!

8ozs of the following:

sugar
butter or margarine
SR flour

4 x eggs
dash of vanilla extract/essence
a shake of cocoa if you would like chocolate buns

Zap all in the Magimix and bake until have a slight spring-back when gently pressed. Allow to cool and zap butter, icing sugar and dash of vanilla until the correct consistency to spread onto lovely buns and go glitter/decoration bonkers, enjoy!

Use yellows recipe but instead of using cupcake cases, use ice cream cones (the small, flat bottomed ones). Bake as usual, then ice.

I stick a mini flake in and sprinkles ~ my kids and friends love them, plus they are easy to hold and no empty paper casesSmile.

Have fun..........

TootFuckingToot · 28/10/2013 12:49

Would the cones not burn ?

I would just check your allowed to hand the cupcakes out first. This is bummed in ds2's school...

When ds1 was in primary I was the youngest and non of the older mums talked to me.. Now ds2 is at primary and I'm one of the older mums (I have a big age gap between dc) and I don't talk to the younger mums. If they do talk I'll talk back but tbh I can't be done with the school run mums.

TootFuckingToot · 28/10/2013 13:33

I have asked I am allowed to take them in Smile

toot no, amazingly they don't ! Sponge cooks perfectly in them and IMOGrin they look really professional, especially when iced with a flake in ~ mini 99s

TootFuckingToot · 28/10/2013 15:10

I think ill do that they sound amazing , do you fill the whole cone with the mix

OP posts:
loveandsmiles · 28/10/2013 20:59

Fill to just over 3/4 full. Honestly you will be amazed, they're great!

Pic is off ones i made last week ~ some with flake and some with marshmallows. After telling you about them I was in he mood for more so made some today ~ really quick and easy ~ did chocolate butter icing, flake and choc and orange sprinkles to look Halloween themed ~ DC delighted when they came in from school Smile

Please give them a go and let me know how you get on........

If you haven't already started the baking you might want to save yourself some bother. Get some value fairy cakes from Tesco and decorate them with a butter cream topping. You can make it yourself, (recipe on mumone.blogspot.co.uk ) or buy some ready made.

Embellish with ready made wafer flowers, or halve large chocolate discs covered in sprinkles, and arrange like butterfly wings, you can get all of these ready made!

If you really want to wow these mothers there's also a recipe and instructions (on the blog above), for a princess cake that would cost around £130 at the Cake Store . Maybe keep it up your sleeve for a later date! Will also be posting a fairy tale castle cake recipe soon.
