My freezer has defrosted.....

It seems ds didn't shut the door properly last night when he got out some ice cream - my fault for being lazy and making him go get it himself I suppose!

Would appreciate some advice on what I can do with the food...

I have cooked up any mince which has started to defrost to use up within the next couple of days or freeze again once cooked.

Taken out bread, again to use up within next day or two.

What about meat which appears to be still frozen - is it safe to put it straight into my other freezer (which is working fine)? Also not sure about frozen veg which are slightly defrosted?

official advice is no, eat it or chuck it, because it will have started to defrost. however if it was frozen in plenty of time (i.e. you didn't throw it in the freezer on the use by date) then I would just bung it in the freezer. have done that lots of times (crappy freezer door) with no ill effects. frozen veg is also fine, but migt stick together a bit.

I always thought stuff was ok to keep frozen up to six hours after the freezer was turned off or left open
So if it was more than 6 hrs ago I probably wouldn't risk it tbh.
can you not cook up a load of stuff then re freeze?

I would refreeze the bread too actually. It's fine (has no fat in it to go off or something).

Thanks guys, you have put my mind at rest. There was also a packet of fishfingers (please don't judge!) which had defrosted. I have cooked them for ds's to have cold later but not sure now - they have both had tummy upsets last night/today so don't want to aggrevate things. The cat will think she is in heaven!
