What cake under butterscotch icing?

I just posted this on food - not realising there was a dedicated cake board. So, DD wants a cake with butterscotch (or fudge) icing. What cake should be underneath???? I did try coffee which was fine but I'd like to try something else.

Chocolate?

Or plain, with strawberries/other berries on top of the icing?

Sticky toffee traybake

Mmmm

I'd go with choc or vanilla, or how about making a sponge, splitting the mix into two or three and then making one choc, one plain and one with caramel or toffee flavour.

Then spoon blobs into the cake tray and swirl slightly through the flavours to make a marble effect cake.

ooh I like the idea of the marble effect. Although the birthday girl will not care so long as there is icing. Philistine!

Milly, i make homemade caramel sauce, lovely, i use choc sponge and sandwich them together with the caramel. I bake this cake for a local cafe and it always goes down well.
