Hi there,

I have got some meatballs that need using but the family don't like spaghetti and meatballs- are there any alternatives?

Thank you

On a pizza? With chips and ikea style gravy? Kebabs?

twinklestar2 · 04/10/2013 17:28

In wraps with cheese and then baked in the oven mmm

Meatball pasta bake?

Anything with cheese really!

I have a really yummy recipe where lamb meatballs are served with a salad made from fried courgettes and tomatoes. There is a garlicky dressing made with tahini, and I serve it with flatbreads.

I'm out and about, so I can't give all the details, but it might inspire you?

In pitta bread with salad and wedges? Or creamy mustard sauce (think its a philadelphia recipe) with fettuccine.

ShatnersBassoon · 04/10/2013 17:30

Think of them as round sausages. Opens up accompaniment options a bit.

Curry?

Antidote · 04/10/2013 19:05

Spicy tomato sauce, stacks of cheese, into wraps and bake in the oven. One of our favorites

Earthworms · 04/10/2013 19:05

I eat them with mash and gravy
Or
With salad, chilli sauce and yoghurt in a wrap

Yum

hettienne · 04/10/2013 19:08

We like them swedish style - make a sauce of stock, cream, a splash of soy sauce and pepper. Serve with potatoes/chips/mash and veg.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 04/10/2013 19:17

Swedish style with redcurrant !

dizzy77 · 04/10/2013 19:23

Are they in a sauce that can be mopped up w mash or rice? Maybe a sausage casserole type base and gravy. Or in sandwiches a la subway or frikkadellen(sp?). I'd have a go at ikea style using hettienne's instructions - we bought sachets of the powder once to make the sauce but I couldn't face it.

considers meatballs deep in freezer bought from ikea before the horse meat scandal and wonders whether to be brave

IslaValargeone · 04/10/2013 19:32

Sanity, when you are not out and about could you please post your recipe, it sounds delicious.

Mumzy · 04/10/2013 19:54

We like meatballs simmered in good stock and then served with rice noodles with green veg and the stock for meatball noodle soup.

123bucklemyshoe · 04/10/2013 19:56

I turned some left over lamb meatballs into Cornish pasties...was yummy

sharond101 · 04/10/2013 22:36

We like meatballs in tomato sauce (DH mixes some chipotle paste into his) and served with salad, corn and either tortilla wraps, soft sesame coated crusty bread or a toasted ciabatta roll.

ushaiza · 08/10/2013 17:11

Make a tasty curry sauce, like Jamie Oliver's, and cook the meatballs in the sauce. Serve over rice.
Or make a rice pulao by frying onion,a couple of cloves, a bit of cinnamon and three cardamom pods, then adding washed rice soaked for half an hour, salt, hot stock/water and cooking till done. Gently fork in fried meatballs. Serve with dhal, curry, tomato sauce, or any gravy.
Or mix fried meatballs into dhal and serve over rice, or have with naan or rotis.
Poach them in soup, add chopped spring onion, carrot, green peas and noodles.
Flatten meatballs, sandwich in pairs with chopped hard-boiled egg and a bit of chopped spring onion, pinch edges to enclose, and fry. Serve as appetisers with a mint-cilantro chutney (no sugar).
Stuff wonton wrappers with meatballs with a bit of onion and/or garlic, steam, or poach in soup, or fry.
You could make them into samosas with filo pastry and some fried onion and spice. Or add green peas and/or potato and make them into turnovers.
Hope this helps!
