Anyone make their own savoury rice

Hi all, just wondering it anyone has made their own savoury rice, I bought a packet of it today and ds2 actually tried it and loved it, he has aspergers so anytime he tries anything new I do a song and dance try and make my own version as it would be without the additives and msg and stuff, he doesn't have a great range of foods but I think I could sneak in some really finely chopped veg and get away with it, thankyou

I made it sort of my own recipe. I use easy cook rice as it never goes soggy if over cooked, 1 cup to 2 cups water in microwave, 1/2 tsp turmeric (for colouring really) various amounts of chopped onion, carrot, broccoli and peppers finely chopped so they all cook at same time, takes 15 mins. A bayleaf, 1/2 stock cube and my lot love it. I think there are so many variations you could try but this one we serve almost weekly (they think it comes from a packet!!!)

I do.

My basic is

fry chopped onion in a little oil
add chopped peas, carrots, sweetcorn and peppers, depending what I have and rice. I use chicken stock instead of water.

I then add turmeric if I fancy it.

I then can add chopped chicken, bacon or prawns.

I don't cook savoury rice but my eldest used to be quite fussy and so I would try and disguise homemade as shop bought stuff - anyway another thing might be the consistency of size of the veg? As savoury rice does have quite small bits doesn't it? I bought one of those hand choppers (the ones where you bang/press down in the top and the blade chops) and with that you can get quite uniformly small bits (or more chunky). And that would chop onions carrots and whatever the green veg is in savoury rice quite happily.

Btw my DH's used to love (still does!) savoury rice and mashed potato!!!! Hmm
