Non vinegary chutney?!?

Or am I being ridiculous?

I lave the idea of chutney, savoury jam to go with cheese but I can't bear the smell of vinegar. Vinegar is what preserves it though.

Can I make vinegar less (or nearly) chutney!

You can use salt instead of vinegar to preserve it, I suppose, but you do need the vinegar. Why don't you try some different vinegars? Malt, white wine, red wine, cider - see which you can cope with smell-wise.

You can make chutney without vinegar. Have a look at the recipes here
