as a sort of vegetable dish with your main dinner iyswim

dm has just suggested we have stuffed tortellini for dinner with veg sausages

I only ever do this with a sauce - just the pasta and sauce as a full meal

who's right? :)

I do eat freshed, stuffed pasta without sauce. I generally season with black pepper, olive oil/ squeeze of lemon and a touch of Parmesan.

My DD has naked tortellini - not as a veg but as dinner with veg and usually some cheese or meat on the side - because she doesn't like sauce on it, and wouldn't like butter or oil on it either. She might occasionally have a bit of pesto but usually as-is.

However, I think most people would want a sauce or oil etc as MCTH suggests. Sauceless its a bit sticky.

You're conventionally correct but your DM is right that this would probably be a nice combination.

thank you

yes it would be a bit sticky I thought

No, stuffed pasta is definitely not a sort of vegetable side dish!

I can't imagine many less appealing meals than veg sausages with tortellini without sauce on the side, tbh.

I don't like dry meals, so I would do a sauce with it. Probably tomato

ErrolTheDragon · 01/10/2013 18:24

If it wasn't for my DD I'd make a simple tomato sauce and chop the sausage into it. Though that might be better on plain pasta tbh

Dress with a little olive oil and Parmesan. It doesn't need a full on sauce, just olive oil is ok too if you have no Parmesan. We eat stuffed pasta like this (sans sausages) in our house regularly.

I think I would with tortellini because they are stuffed, I don't think I'd have sauceless pasta with sausages if the pasta was just tagliatelli/fusilli etc. I would toss the pasta in a little olive oil before serving - completely dry pasta will stick together in an unappetising lump. We often have pasta just with a spoonful of pesto from a jar as an accompaniment to sausages for an ultra-simple supper, but not completely naked pasta.
