Pot luck supper?

We've been invited to a pot luck supper. I've never been to one, but understand that everyone brings some food.

Does anyone have any suggestions for something to make? I'm guessing that desserts would probably be easiest to make in advance, but I might be asked to do a starter or main course. I suppose it needs to be something which can be made in advance and warmed up in the host's oven if required?

Any hot tips would be very welcome!

My staple for 'pool suppers' is Nigella's onion pie - red onion with thyme & a cheesy scone base! Delicious hot or cold. Can't remember which book it's in.

Thanks for the suggestions they look great! I like the idea of doing something which can be hot or cold and also vegetarian friendly too.
