I took a whole chicken out of the fridge today that was use by 28/9 - yesterday. It was put in the oven at 3pm so it is 15 hours 'out of date'. DH & I decided to roast it and see. It smells like roast chicken Grin and it looks like roast chicken...

Would you eat it? Grin

It doesn't magically pfft out of date at midnight. I'd eat it.

Iheartcrunchiebars · 29/09/2013 17:09

Yeah if it was off you'd have smelt it when you put it in the oven.

Ragwort · 29/09/2013 17:11

Of course I'd eat it, are you seriously worried that it is 15 hours 'out of date' Hmm - I regularly eat food that is a lot more out of date than 15 hours and I've never had food poisoning.

Surely you use your common sense no wonder there is so much food wastage in this country.

Rag, this is a light hearted, I'm bored thread...hence the GrinGrinGrin

Yes, properly refrigerated it will be fine, 48 hrs on chicken I worry.
Less than that enjoy.

Now I need to go and turn vintage unknown mince into curry.

YoniBottsBumgina · 29/09/2013 17:19

Oh god yes. Chicken honks if it's off. You'd know!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/09/2013 17:22

If it smells and looks OK, and has been properly cooked, I would definitely eat it.

I have fed the family pork that was a couple of days out of date, and they didn't complain about the taste or die.

Making the gravy next...

This thread is just possibly not quite as exciting as my live birth thread last September! Grin

Actually I forgot hit post, curry was very nice and very gone, despite slightly freezer burned mince.

Excellent, StarBunny! The roast chicken was lovely too Grin

Of course! I've had chickens that have been still in date that have been as high as a kite and as rank as a badger's arse, and chicken that was two days out of date, fresh as a daisy and no-one died, got the squits or even a stomach cramp. Trust your senses; sense of sight, tense of smell, sense of touch and sense of common.
