New thread for Cookery Book Club. Any Supermarket magazine or Good Food (probably Delicious or Olive as well) of your choice and a Food Blog of choice. There were links to some good blogs on Septembers thread...think I'm going with Skint Foodie and Good Food magazine

Hopefully Tiger et al are less frenetic this month and are back on board....we need ideas for November too. Someone was asking after Thai books on another thread, maybe an idea.

Hello first one if you don't count pantah she had a bit if a heads up since she started it!

ELR · 26/09/2013 12:57

Not sure for November but just wanted to say that my very own copy (always begged and borrowed before) of Nigella Christmas arrived a few days ago so can't wait for December!!
I'm really looking forward to the October thread just waiting on the new mags to come out should be anytime soon.

HuevosRancheros · 26/09/2013 14:03

So are we going for the October editions of magazines (i.e the ones that the have been out for a while) or the ones that come out in October?

Pantah630 · 26/09/2013 14:39

I don't know Huevos, whichever we like the look of most I think. I always get Good Food, so will probably pick from both mags [unhelpful] Grin

I am gonna go for the ones that come out soon as already have the October ones. I could do both I guess will see what tickles my fancy!!

ScienceRocks · 26/09/2013 17:22

Just signing in. Will have a think about what to do. Did someone mention a good blog about someone called jack? Brain not working, sorry Blush

schmalex · 26/09/2013 17:25

Signing in for the first time! I already have Oct Good Food but need no excuses to buy Nov too.

science I think the blog is a girl called jack, sorry can't link as on phone.

ELR · 26/09/2013 18:03

www.thewednesdaychef.com I think I am going to try this blog

Cantdothisagain · 26/09/2013 19:08

I'm in for sure! Already did the Olive pork Goan curry which is easy and delicious, a keeper. Not sure which month magazine to use.

For blogs again not sure but I am liking Sally's Baking Addiction...

LovingKent · 27/09/2013 12:20

Thanks for starting the new thread Smile.

I have October's Good Food magazine for Oct and have bookmarked most of it to cook bar that ridiculous cake on the cover that uses 21 eggs and takes the best part of a day to do!

Blog wise - haven't decided between The Skint Foodie or A Girl Called Jack (link for you Science)

mimolette · 27/09/2013 15:09

I've just browsed through the Waitrose magazine for October (that's been out a while) and only a couple of things take my fancy - smoked haddock/cheese/leeks on toast and a miso noodles packed lunch thing.
There are some interesting vegetable based cakes in there for any bakers and Kate Middleton's chicken Kiev and mushroom vol au vents....!
May treat myself to Good Food as well.
Of the blogs, I love Recipe Rifle and am have added the others people mentioned to my feed so hoping to discover some new gems :)

ELR · 27/09/2013 17:24

Mimolette I've just browsed through waitrose October too but not sure it's the same one. Has it got toffee apples on the front! Anyway I like the look of Prawn Saganaki on pg 84 and the chorizo hash brown with poached egg on 94 both different versions of things I kind of make so will give them a go.

mimolette · 27/09/2013 18:04

Oh no, just realised mine says September on the front. It has figs on the front and it's the one our store still has in stock. Sounds like next issue is more promising - I love anything with chorizo!

Cantdothisagain · 29/09/2013 16:31

The October Waitrose mag is great- lots of v tempting recipes. I also like the look of the prawn dish-looks easy but tasty!

glorious · 30/09/2013 12:21

Signing in. Not back from holiday yet so I'll see what you all get on with before deciding I think.

Nolda · 30/09/2013 18:22

Just in case anyone hasn't got it already, Jerusalem is only £7.49 on Amazon!

ELR · 30/09/2013 20:30

Thanks nolda just purchased! Loved that book so much was so sad to take back to the library I renewed it 4 times!!

HuevosRancheros · 30/09/2013 21:07

Damn you, nolda, I have that on Kindle, but a Kindle cookbook just doesn't cut it..... may just have to buy it Grin

maniacbug · 30/09/2013 21:41

Thank you Nolda, just bought x 3 for Christmas presents!
Is it really October tomorrow? Yikes...

ScienceRocks · 01/10/2013 14:11

To celebrate the start of August, I have bought the Sainsburys mag Grin I haven't looked through yet, but it is normally quite good so I feel sure I will be contributing to the thread this month.

In slightly related news, I have also bought Jerusalem. So much for this being a cheaper month on the cookbook front... Blush

Anyone else making cakes for a Macmillan fundraiser this week? I'm planning an apple cake, courtesy of all the fruit that MIL keeps leaving in my porch when I'm not at home. Any other ideas for cooking apples will be gratefully received Smile

Oh, and if anyone has any bright ideas on how I can decorate this without using royal icing, I'd also be grateful. DD1 has decided she wants it for her birthday cake, but I'm not going to have time to do royal icing for it. I wondered about drizzling with glace icing. Views?

HuevosRancheros · 01/10/2013 14:39

Maybe it's really sunny where you are Science, but it's October here.... Wink

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/10/2013 17:46

Great idea to use magazines. I usually get Waitrose and Sainsbo's, so will try to do something form either or both of those when they come out.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/10/2013 17:46

I made whisky cake for Macmillan yesterday.

ScienceRocks · 01/10/2013 17:46

Huevos Blush October!
