DD seems a bit obsessed with food atm (she is nearly 4) Is this normal?

Really odd, just recently she has started asking for food a lot more often and being very specific about what she wants. For eg she will eat breakfast and then start talking about what she wants for lunch. She is always asking for ice lollies or biscuits. If she sees me eating she immediately wants some of whatever I have. She even seems to know what is in the fridge!

She is not fat but neither a skinny thing, dh and I are both fairly stocky builds and have to watch our weight.

I just don't know if this is normal when they start to be more independent. She often doesn't eat a huge amount at meals and then wants to pick. I wonder if she is just a natural grazer like me?

Any ideas?

dd2 is almost four and similar. she eats breakfast and as soon aqs we get in from the school run, its 'i want something to eat and drink, i would like a milk and a biscuit/sausgae/banana (delete as needed)'. i guess its because generally i get in and switch the kettle on

Dd1 is just the same and i know of other 4 year olds that are the same, not sure if it is normal but i have noticed that she does it more if she is bored(bit like me really)

That's good

maybe it's a 4yo thing

dd1 was the same.

Beauregard · 25/06/2006 22:31

or maybe they take after us

CountessDracula · 25/06/2006 22:32

did she grow out of it?

I was thinking she is due a growth spurt - she gets a podgy tum and then suddenly shoots up and it goes again.

DD is 4.5 and very similar (the worst question I can ask her is what she wants for a meal as it is so specific (and generally not in the house) it drives me crazy) . But I would say she probably has 6 mini meals a day rather than the traditional breakfast/lunch/dinner.

DS is 4 and does this all the time. As he finishes his breakfast he will ask 'what can I have to eat now mum?' He also eats more when he is bored.

both mine are like this and dd1 is skeletal, dd2 more rounded

I assumed all children were the same

CountessDracula · 26/06/2006 09:20

Well I was only worried because it is a recent development, she always used to just eat what I gave her and that was it.

I guess it's just growing up!

dd2 is specific about everything
