Fairymum, if it's that much of an emergency I'd need an ambulence. Else I could call a taxi, or just walk, take the bus...WE don't have a car, so wouldn't matter if I was illegal to drive. I don't like getting plastered, anyway... I do know people that say that they can never drink in case they have to drive at short notice to hospital, but if you like a drop at all, how can you manage to refrain all the way until they're 18? When they might be too pissed to drive themselves, either?!

I've never had to go off in the middle of the night, truly never had an emergency, so can't imagine it as a high risk.

hmb · 17/02/2004 15:31

We never go out to a pub and dh doesn't drink alcohol at all. I will have a glass of wine or a 25cl bottle of beer 5-6 times a week, so under £10 for a normal week. More if we have friends round for a meal.....but that isn't very often. God how sad do we sound?!!

scoobysnax · 17/02/2004 15:50

Lady C
you are right that this was insania on my part although it seemed quite within normal parameters at the time! I can't beieve I am the worst offender on mumsnet(although now reformed).
I was really hoping that £100/wk would be exceeded by some mumsnetters, at least pre-kids...

Now I spend the same money on toys, so insania still reigns one way or the other...

Scoobysnax, pre DD we were well over the £100 pw mark. Most of it was spent at the pub rather than at home though. DH yearns for those days. I've got to the rather sad point where there don't seem to be any toys left to buy

fairydust · 17/02/2004 15:55

about £9.52 a week - £5.00 on dh's beers and £4.52 for wine

zebra · 17/02/2004 15:58

I am actively trying to persuade DH to expend less on paying off our next mortgage and more on "nice stuff" for us.

myalias · 17/02/2004 16:05

Marialuisa - Waitrose stock singha beer.

lydialemon · 17/02/2004 16:10

nothing I'm afraid.

Blu · 17/02/2004 16:11

Share a bottle (wine) on maybe 4 nights a week, and have one or two 'stubby' bottles of v weak beer on other nights. £25?

SecondhandRose · 17/02/2004 16:34

zero but DH does get thru the Diet Coke does that count?

LadyCodworth · 17/02/2004 16:36

LOl scooby at insania

if you count alcohol OUT then I would have spent that as a student

(terms grant gone in month)

LadyCodworth · 17/02/2004 16:37

Diet coke included? ah well know you a re talking

nutcracker · 17/02/2004 16:38

I will usually buy a bottle of wine a week so about 4 quid

CountessDracula · 17/02/2004 17:14

We always make sure that one of us is in a fit state to look after dd and only really go for it together if for eg my mum is staying.

Don't worry about being over the limit for driving as could always get a cab.

fio2 · 17/02/2004 17:17

marialusia - sainsburys has got singha beer in but I have asked local off liscences to source it for me in the past and they have all managed to for cheaper (I used to buy it for a relative, of course)

We drink about 4-6 bottles of wine and a crate of beer at home (that 30-40 quid?!) I suppose. We do drink out occassionally but not very often. I realy need to cut down and will when I move, honest. Mind you sometimes that figure includes entertaining guests

fio2 · 17/02/2004 17:21

we drink when the kids are in bed and the hospital is only over the road so I can walk the kids over in ana emergency btw

kiwisbird · 17/02/2004 17:22

hmm about between £10 and £30... depending on the mood and company!
Beer and wine only with the odd bottle of pimms (thats lasts longer than a week though!)

stupidgirl · 17/02/2004 20:39

£0 - I have 2 bottles of alcohol in my house, bioth of which were given to me. I never buy any alcohol.

Hulababy · 17/02/2004 20:42

Just 2 adults here

At home = £20 a week normally; more if near Christmas, birthday or special occasion That is mainly wine which buy as a case, plus extra bottles, some beer ad some spirits, etc.

Out of the house = probably between £10 and £20 a week

Total = £30-£40 a week (for a normal, average type of week)

Hulababy · 17/02/2004 20:44

LOL Fio Our nearest children's A&E is only a 5 minute walk maximum too!

Evita · 17/02/2004 21:00

2 glasses of wine a night, so I guess 3 bottles a week, various prices to £15-20 a week or so. I don't know how I'd wind down without my red wine in the evening ... dp doesn't drink much at all, the odd bottle of beer or a pint when he goes out which isn't that often. I'm the boozer. But much much less so than before I got pregnant.

crystaltips · 17/02/2004 21:27

Not too sure what my booze bill is .... as I buy my food and booze at the same time .... but I spend about £250 per week on shopping ... and live on mouldy cheese and stale bread Hic! Hic!

Demented · 17/02/2004 21:47

At the start of the month I usually buy a box of six bottles of red (£25) and try to make that last the month, which it does if we don't have people over for dinner etc. We very rarely go out but we did have a night out on Sunday and I think we spent about £30 between us in the pub.

marialuisa · 18/02/2004 08:42

Thanks for the replies re: Singha beer. unfortunately we don't live in the sort of area that has a Waitrose (think the nearest one is about 50 miles away in Manchester!) and even the large Sainsbury's doesn't stock the stuff. TBH it's difficult to get things like aubergines here!
