CMC/ trag gum

I'm in the process of making DSs birthday cake. I've got Debbie Browns book and it doesn't really mention trag gum/ cmc, but most YouTube tutorials that I've watched say it is needed. I'm making a Madeira cake, icing it with fondant and then making his comforter teddy out of fondant to sit on top as well as some cubes with each letter of his name. Will I be ok without cmc? Or will I be better off with it?

Hi kosher, i made a similar cake in July with one of the teddies out of Debbie Browns book, i also made a no 1 to stand up, normally i use trag gum, especially for flowers etc but i didnt use it on this cake, that pic is on my profile for you to check out my teddy, i also made some hearts to stand up with her name on it , have a look and see what you think
