ok it's a lie.

What I really want to know, is what will happen if I substitute half the plain flour in pancakes, with self-raising?

How bloody dull is that??

don't know about the pancakes I'm afraid but doknow that I have a 250g bar of caramel in the fridge which I'm supposed to send back to Cadbury's but really don't want to.....

DumbledoresGirl · 24/06/2006 21:23

Feistybird, how cruel was that? I hardly want to give you your answer now.

I don't think it will hurt.

(Unlike your deception!)

biglips · 24/06/2006 21:24

tommy -CADBURYS!?!?! or are you talking about a person on mn??

Tommy · 24/06/2006 21:27

course not - the enormous chocolate factory that wants to poison us all with salmonella

biglips · 24/06/2006 21:28

ooohhh yes ive forgotton about that!

PrettyCandles · 24/06/2006 21:44

They will rise. You will have slightly puffy pancakes, rather than thin lacey ones. Not a major problem, I should have thought. You could probably get around the risk of puff by letting the mixture stand for a while before cooking it. Don't know how long though. The raise in self-raising is caused by water coming into contact with the raising agent (some form of baking powder), which releases CO2 gas. If you let the mix stand for a while before cooking it, most of the CO2 will escape and the pancakes will not rise, or not as much. That is why cakes have to go into the oven as soon as the batter has been mixed, otherwise they don't rise properly.

Sorry to be so boring.

I'll go punish myself by stealing a bit more of the HUGE bar of Cadbury's that MIL left for dlos. Mustn't let them get ill, after all.

Tommy · 24/06/2006 22:01

wasn't going to let the DSs eat any but not sure whether I should....
(good tip about the pancakes though - and the only person who has answered the original question!)

DumbledoresGirl · 24/06/2006 22:31

Oi Tommy I answered it thank you! I may not have had PrettyCandles' scientific knowledge to disseminate, but I beat her to it by 21 minutes!

I just knew I was being ignored today!

Tommy · 24/06/2006 23:08

sorry about that DG

everything ok with you?

PrettyCandles · 25/06/2006 15:16

Only because it took me 21mins to write what you managed in 5 words!

GeorginaA · 25/06/2006 15:18

Can I sue you for trade descriptions on the basis of that title?!
