Alternative to Roast for Sunday Lunch

AnonYonimousBird · 19/09/2013 18:05

We have guests for lunch on Sunday and of course, Roast Dinner is a staple, we all love it. However, I just fancy trying something else. It needs to be a "proper" lunch, but is something like a pie a bit of a cop out with guests coming?

Any thoughts/ideas gratefully received!

A lovely big homemade lasagne, with garlic bread and one (or two) salads

Whole fish baked in salt crust?

I did pulled pork, jps, and homemade coleslaw for Dfs birthday and he loved it.

I was going to say lasagne too :)

Thank you all.

When I mentioned to the family last night that I might NOT be doing a traditional roast, there was a complete outcry, so looks like I am back to a big chicken or a leg of lamb anyway!

Thanks for the ideas though, all those would be great. But not on a Sunday for my lot it seems!

We quite like meatloaf on a Sunday (or whenever really). You can still "carve" it and serve it with roasties, gravy, yorkshires etc, just like a proper roast-type Sunday lunch. You can do it in pastry too, like beef Wellington. Might be more traditional?

Jamie's 30 mins chicken pie with new pots and veg - yummy!

Big shepherds' pie, lamp chops or pork chops with mint/lamb or parsley sauce.

I love proper family meals - enjoy.
