Jacket potatoes, your microwave method please?

You may have already seen me fumbling about on here looking for vegetarian ideas for my new vegetarian DD 11yrs. I normally do these in the oven but what's the best way, micro or oven, does it matter, how long in the mw?

Thanks all!

Micro will never have crisp skin but perfectly edible. And quick. My dc's don't know what proper mash is as I either bake in the micro then mash or buy frozen Blush

4 mins at full for a big one. Sometimes I turn it halfway or it goes a bit chewy on the bottom. Leave for 5 mins wrapped in kitchen paper or foil. Serve.

Prick with a fork and microwave for 3 to 4 minutes then ake in the oven to crisp the skin up.

5-8mins on high in the microwave (depending on size). Smear in butter or drizzle over some olive oil and then sprinkle with a bit of salt (helps skin crisp up). Then 30min at 200c in the oven.

Have been known to microwave ahead of time and then do oven thing when needed. My fusspot DH says he can tell but I don't think it's too bad that way and makes it a bit quicker!

coco just do clarify, you do one then the other??

Weirdly...my DM gave us frozen jacket potatoes (aunty Bessie's or mcCains or something). All you did was microwave them for a few mins and amazingly they tasted fine. My DH didn't notice they weren't done normally in the oven! Sounds soooo wrong but great for those evenings when you've only got 10min to knock something up.

I always do mine in the microwave for 10 minutes or so, then in the oven.

You lot must have super-powerful microwaves (or mine is pathetic) to be able to do a potato in 4 minutes!

acrabadabra · 16/09/2013 11:24

Mine is quite new so probably quite powerful but if you wrap in foil the residual heat keeps cooking them. Even after sitting for ten minutes they're still piping hot.

And yes prick all over with a fork or take out your anger and stab with a big kitchen knife.

If I'm a bit short on time, I start them in the microwave, and then finish them off in the oven. I find that just done in the microwave they seem a bit tasteless and need salt, but don't if done all in the oven or finished off there.
