Oh goody anoother food thread

Brown rice - pretty yuk though it has it's good points I suppose

Wholemeal pasta- again I eat it sometimes when I am trying to be 'good' but it is truly vile in most contexts. The whole point of pasta (and rice in most cultures) is to provide a bland base for interesting and well cooked sauces/stews etc. Wholeal pasta and brown rice often obscure the taste of what is with it.

As in everything balance is required. I would no more dream of eating wholemeal pasta lasagne than eating my own head. However I will sometimes have wholemeal pasta with cheese and some olive oil or a simple tomato sauce. That way the stronger tasts of the pasta doesn't jar too much with what else is in the meal. I don't however enjoy it as much as when I eat white pasta in the same way.

Wholemeal pasta is available in Italy but very rarely used as far as I can tell. They don't use much wholemeal bread either though which I do like a lot.

Oh no! I have never been roundly insulted on MN before, and I must admit that I thought it was me who was a "lazy ignorant shit-guzzling slob" and making "outrageously stupid pompous justifications for being too f*cking lazy to feed their children proper food" and I felt quite excited...don't you think I did well not to rise to it (much)?

But obviously fibre IS a moral issue and we should be judging each other on the basis of intake. Where else does the phrase 'Moral Fibre' come from, eh?

Now where is Moondaogs thread about catfood...

Don't you think MN has gone a bit bonkers over the last few days about food?

I'm proudly food-snobby.

Wholewheat carbonara eaters - in twenty years time your children will be sitting at smart dinner parties regaling their friends with horror stories of their mother's cooking ("can you believe it, she actually used wholewheat pasta for carbonara" "that's nothing - mine thought it was perfectly acceptable to use wholegrain rice instead of aroborio")
