I have bought one for tea. Cooking instructions show boil in water or oven cook? Which do you think is best?

Either is fine. I get a gammon joint and boil it in apple juice or cider. You need enough liquid to cover, you can top up with water if necessary. Add in an onion, a couple of carrots and half a dozen black peppercorns, cover and boil for an hour. Fab, and the cooking liquid makes a fantastic soup.

Alternatively you can oven cook, but cover in tinfoil so it doesn't dry out. As an extra you can then make a glaze out of brown sugar, mustard and a tablespoon of apple juice. Apply all over joint and stick back in the oven for 15 mins.

Sorry, baked for me. I cooked one yesterday, wrapped in foil on gas mark 3 for 2.5 hours. It was wonderful. I have boiled as well but much prefer baked.

thanks - I have it boiling at the moment - it doesn't take quite so long and I have limited time. Shall definitely try baking another time.
