Yes

ginmakesitallok · 30/08/2013 18:06

Isn't baking soda the same as bicarbonate of soda?

ginmakesitallok · 30/08/2013 18:07

Baking powder is baking soda with cream of tartar, they are different

Tee2072 · 30/08/2013 18:09

They are not the same.

readysteady · 30/08/2013 18:26

Well according to my cook book they are the same one is the American version bicarbonate of soda is something different.

adagio · 30/08/2013 18:30

I always thought Baking Soda is Bicarb and Baking Powder has cream of Tartar added, exactly as ginmakesitallok says.

readysteady · 30/08/2013 18:43

Maybe the books wrong.......

Tee2072 · 30/08/2013 18:52

The book is wrong as some of my recipes call for both.

clottedcreamteaplease · 30/08/2013 19:24

So to clarify no I can't use the baking powder I need bicarb of soda?

No you have to get baking soda which is normally labeled bicarbonate of soda :).
